Dr. Kevin Wright
Senior Equity Facilitator/Consultant
- What do you do at CEI?
I currently serve as an Equity and Inclusion Senior Facilitator. It is my responsibility to raise consciousness, build skills, and develop strategies to socialize and operationalize equity efforts throughout organizations.
- What did you do prior to CEI?
Prior to CEI, I served as a college faculty member and administrator, where I specialized in multicultural affairs, and taught courses on the topics of civic engagement, business connections, leadership, and financial literacy. - Why do you do this work?
I’m from the Historic Westside of Las Vegas. While the history of that neighborhood is rich and emphasizes on the themes of Black excellence, community, and liberation, the history is also filled with attempted erasure, anti-Blackness, and resilience and resistance from violence. In light of what I’ve seen and have experienced, it is my responsibility to continue creating access and opportunity for the Black people that are alongside me, the Black people who have come after me, and the Black people who have yet to exist, all while protecting our Black elders, and honoring our Black ancestors. - What do you believe?
I believe in the transformative nature of healing, empowering, and liberating others to advocate and fight for what they believe in, as it contributes to a sense of belonging, community care, and holistic wellness.
- What is a question that guides your work?
What responsibility do you have in this world that will make your ancestors proud?
Quote – “I want to go down in history in a chapter marked miscellaneous because the writers could find no way to categorize me. In this world where classification is key, I want to erase the straight lines so I can be me.” – Staceyann Chin
