What do you do at CEI?
I am the Operations Manager, responsible for logistics management, operational strategizing and program support for CE&I staff and partner organizations.
What were you doing prior to CEI?
I’ve spent the last six years working in the Portland nonprofit community focused on empowering marginalized youth. Most recently, I worked closely with students and families and managed the daily operations of an alternative middle school located in the Rockwood neighborhood.
Why do you do this work?
As a bi-cultural, bi-lingual person of color, I feel it’s my duty to continue the work for racial equity in which my ancestors played a role. I want to contribute to making this world better. So far in my career I’ve had the opportunity to see racial equity work play out in the educational realm. Coming to CEI I get to see the impact of racial equity play out in a larger way through the organizations we are working with. There is an opportunity for us to be the bridge between organizations through our sharing of a common framework and understanding. I am excited to be part of making our communities stronger.
What do you believe?
I believe that change is possible. That my contribution, and others is valuable, important and critical in moving towards a more equitable society.
What is a question that guides your work?
“What would it take for us to create a genuine, inclusive, safe and innovative community where all people can thrive?”
Quote that resonates with you about this work?
“…The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
signs of freedom.”
– Maya Angelou
